The Faculty of Life Science and Technology is a key research-oriented school with qualified teachers and abundant teaching resources in KUST. There are 98 faculty and staff members in the Faculty, among whom 81 are professors and associate professors, and 26 are doctoral supervisors. It is entitled to grant doctorate degree on Biological Science as the first-level discipline, master degree on Biological Science and Pharmaceutical Science as first-level disciplines, and master degree on Biological -Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering, while boasting a national post-doctoral center. It offers several student training platforms, like Yunnan Key Laboratory of Primate Biomedicine, Yunnan Molecular Diagnostic Engineering Technology Research Center, Yunnan Key Laboratory for Sustainable Utilization of Pseudo-ginseng Resources. In recent five years, the Faculty has made itself onto the second prize winning list of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, won several provincial and ministerial science and technology achievement awards, and had 600 papers included in SCI, ISTP, and EI.
The Faculty is among the first pilot colleges of innovation and enterprise education reform in higher education institutions in Yunnan Province. It serves the biomedicine and health industry in the region and has set up an “innovation class” for cultivating biomedical professionals. Its two undergraduate programs have been accredited by CEEAA, and it enrolls about 160 students every year. As a major with unique features of Yunnan Province, Bioengineering was selected into provincial first-class undergraduate programs in 2019, while Pharmaceutical Engineering, an outstanding student training program of Yunnan Province, was listed into national first-class undergraduate programs. The Faculty provides sufficient hardware and software conditions for student training via its KUST - Walvax National Engineering Practice Education Center, Yunnan Pharmaceutical Engineering Simulation Center, bioengineering /pharmaceutical engineering pilot production line, and research and teaching equipment with a total value of nearly 40 million yuan.
