Features
Abundant qualified teachers
Pharmaceutical Engineering has 38 full-time teachers, including 25 professors and associate professors, 10 national and provincial senior talents, among whom 97% have a doctorate, 70% have overseas study experience, while it has employed several senior experts of pharmaceutical enterprises as part-time teachers. All the teachers participate in the teaching of undergraduates, and each undergraduate has an exclusive academic adviser, making the ratio of teachers to students about 1:6.3, far higher than the national standard 1:18 ratio.
Equal attention is paid to theoretical education and scientific research practice education.
This major has a professional teaching laboratory with an area of 1,000 square meters, an enlarged pilot teaching demonstration line, a provincial-level "Pharmaceutical Engineering Virtual Simulation Center", and a total value of teaching equipment of 15.5 million yuan. More than ten off-campus practice bases have been built to cultivate students' practical ability. For example, freshmen will arrange students to visit Yunnan Baiyao and other domestic first-class pharmaceutical enterprises, while seniors will organize centralized internships in pharmaceutical enterprises for 2-4 months to cultivate students' better social adaptability.
Relying on its unique disciplinary advantages, this major will open more than ten national and provincial research platforms, including the Center for Translational Medicine of Non-human Primates led by Academician Ji Weizhi, to undergraduates. Relying on a series of national, provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, students are organized to participate in professional scientific and technological innovation training, such as "Internet Plus Competition", "Challenge Cup", "Life Science Competition", "Pharmaceutical Engineering Design Competition", and "Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Activities of College Students", with outstanding achievements, and won many awards from national and provincial scientific and technological innovation competitions.
Standardized education management is place, and graduates have been well recognized by the industry.
It was accredited by CEEAA for the first time in 2014 and re-accredited in 2017. Following the philosophy of "student-centered, result-oriented and continuous improvement", a set of undergraduate education and training system that meets the international engineering education standards has been established and continuously improved. The undergraduate students have been well recognized by enterprises, continuing education schools and industry education experts.
Objective
Overall objective: To develop students into professional and technical persons who can adapt to the economic and social development of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, have a professional perspective in pharmaceutical industry, the ability to exist and develop themselves in society, and professional attainments, address complex engineering problems, and are competent for various positions in pharmaceutical industry. Students can be qualified for the positions of production and operation, sales and use, technical service and quality supervision in the field of pharmaceutical industry. Students are also encouraged to pursue further studies, so that they can engage in innovative research and development of technology and products, process and engineering design, and become backbone professionals in technology and management.
Career and professional development goals that graduates can achieve in about five years after graduation:
Objective 1 (independent staff): Being able to work independently in grass-roots posts such as technology and product research and development, process and engineering design, production and operation, sales and use, technical service and quality supervision in the pharmaceutical industry, and having rich engineering experience; getting entry qualifications such as a junior professional title or a licensed pharmacist certificate.
Objective 2 (grass-roots managers or technical backbones): Being able to effectively use the discipline foundation, engineering expertise, management and related laws and regulations knowledge in pharmaceutical engineering field, identify and analyze complex engineering problems, put forward independent opinions, design solutions and implement them, and to serve as a grass-roots manager or backbone technical professional at the department level.
Objective 3 (active innovator): Adhering to the spirit of continuous innovation, actively responding to the development challenges of the pharmaceutical industry, actively learning from practice, and becoming a core or backbone member of an innovation project team.
Training orientation: diversified development
TCM Natural Medicine Pharmaceutical (Interdisciplinary)
Biopharmaceutical (Interdisciplinary)
Chemical Pharmaceutical Engineering (Interdisciplinary)
Drug Sales Engineers (Applied)
Medical Innovation and Research (Academic, to pursue postgraduate studies)
After graduation
This major has maintained excellent employment rate for many years, including postgraduate entrance examination, and 98% of graduates have achieved employment within half a year. Job orientations:
Postgraduate studies: Students are encouraged to continue their postgraduate studies, so that they can engage in innovative research and development of medical technology and products, process and engineering design in the future.
KUST has gained the approval for granting doctorate and master degrees on Biological Science as a first-level discipline, master degree on Pharmacy as a first-level discipline, and master degree on Pharmaceutical Engineering, and has established more than 20 related research groups. Students are encouraged to participate in scientific research training to develop their scientific research ability, and they are also supported in pursuing their postgraduate studies.
Employment: After graduation, students can find jobs in the fields of production and operation, sales and use, technical service and quality supervision in the pharmaceutical industry.
According to statistics, five years after graduation, most of the graduates have become backbone employees of pharmaceutical companies, and some of them have become grassroots leaders.
